Ingredients: Spray-Free Whole Buckwheat Groats
Origin: NZ
Buckwheat is not a cereal, but actually a Fruit Seed and is both wheat and gluten free. Despite the name, buckwheat is not related to wheat, as it is not a grass; instead, buckwheat is related to sorrel, knotweed, and rhubarb. The name 'buckwheat' or 'beech wheat' comes from its triangular seeds, which resemble the much larger seeds of the beech nut from the beech tree, and the fact that it is used like wheat.
Buckwheat groats can be ground into a flour & used to make a variety of wheat & gluten free goodies like buckwheat pancakes(Blinis in Russia or Galettes in France), waffles or noodles in Asia. They are a great alternative to rice & can be made into porridge. Try using them raw to create texture in salads like the Brown Rice Salad in Dr Libbys Real Food Chef Recipe Book on sale here or make some yummy Organic Chocolate Truffles & roll some in the raw buckwheat & some in Raw Organic Cacao Nibs. Looks & tastes so yummy & great crunch factor as well as gluten & wheat free.
